There are 7 main chakras in the body, each thought to be a center of spiritual power.

The 7 chakras regulate the flow of energy throughout the body and they are connected to different organs and glands in the human body, each energy center has an associated mantra and color.

Chakras can become blocked, when blocked the flow of energy is impeded causing emotional and physical issues.

Foods for Balancing Your Chakras should be used to help unblock these energy flow.

As the saying goes you are what you eat! How you feel, think, or perform is truly related to your diet.

Food being one of the biggest healers of the human body can prevent multiple illnesses, if one pays attention to the signs the body puts out. 

We could prevent blocked or imbalanced chakras, preventing these illnesses, by balancing our chakras with food.

The 7 Chakras have a connection between your mind and body.  This energy flow is regulated by the chakras opening and closing. 

The chakras can open or close too much allowing the energy to flow improperly, causing the chakras to become imbalanced or blocked.

These foods are usually color coordinated to the color of the chakra. 

The 7 Chakras have their own Balancing Foods:  

There are 7 chakras within the body running from the base of the spine to the crown of the head.

Chakra, the Sunskirt(wheel), spin and allow energy to flow in and out of the body.

Chakras can become overactive, underactive, or blocked, which can affect us both physically and emotionally.

We control the state of our chakras, we have the power to balance our chakras ourselves, via meditation, yoga, self-reflection, nutrition, energetic healing, crystals, or being in a state of high vibration.

I will look at food, it’s healing power, and how it can directly affect how our chakras work when imbalanced or balanced with these foods.

The Root Chakras (Muladhara): Located at the base of the spine

Element: Earth

Color: Red

Root chakra supports our legs, feet, and foundation. This chakra also governs our sexual organs, intestines, and kidneys,

Root chakra is the first to be affected when the chakra becomes imbalanced.

When not working properly you feel down, tired, sleepy, lazy, and fatigued.

When imbalanced you may experience fear, anxiety disorders, loneliness, or nightmares, restlessness, pain to the lower back, or your legs.

Foods to keep this chakra balanced are red in color like:

  • Strawberries
  • Tomatoes
  • Pomegranates 
  • Cherries
  • Red apples 
  • Watermelons 
  • Raspberries.

Root vegetables which are rich in folate, antioxidants, and carotenes like: 

  • Sweet potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Turnips
  • Garlic
  • Beets
  • Parsnips
  • Onions
  • Rutabaga
  • Ginger
  • Turmeric

Protein-rich foods like eggs, beans, nuts, and lean meats and spices like paprika, cayenne pepper, and horseradish.

The root chakra is easily stabilized through food because foods come from the earth and contain the earth’s energy

One just needs to consume more of these foods when out of balance.

Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana): Located above the root chakra, the second chakra is linked to sexuality and reproduction.

Element:  Water

Color: Orange

The sacral chakra is our passion and pleasure center that governs our emotions, senses, intimacy, creativity, and connection.

 Remain balanced with orange-colored foods:

  • Pumpkins

  • Nectarines

Foods that are rich in Omega-3s, coconut, and spices like cinnamon, nuts, and seeds like flax, almonds, walnuts, and sesame. 

Their high water content provides a burst of energy to the second chakra.

When imbalanced, you feel unworthy of love.  An imbalance can cause you to doubt yourself and to have very low self-confidence.

When balanced you are comfortable with intimacy/sharing with others have a healthy relationship with your sexuality and enjoy life’s pleasures.

Solar Plexus (Manipura): Located in the upper abdomen of the stomach area.

Element: Fire

Color: Yellow

This chakra supply nutritive energy to most of the main organs of digestion and purification that include the pancreas, stomach, gallbladder, liver, spleen, lumbar vertebrae, adrenals, and general digestive system.

When imbalanced can cause you to experience low self-esteem, a sense of powerlessness, and a lack of confidence.

This chakra is associated with the lung, immunity, the cardiovascular system, and the upper body muscular system (hands and Arms).

The heart chakra is responsible for love, compassion, kindness, and security.

The throat chakra supports the neck, throat, jaw, and teeth.

The fifth chakra is the energy center of self-expression and communication.

Balanced you can express the truth and you have the ability to express your feelings and speak for yourself. 

Imbalanced this chakra can cause blockage of communication, misunderstanding, and stifled voice,  feeling non-assertive, and egotistical.

To bring the balance back you have to consume foods that are blue in color.

Such as:

  • Purple potatoes
  • Red cabbage
  • Herbal teas
  • Ginseng
  • Mushrooms
  • Barley

Antioxidants and vitamins healing and soothing foods, coconut water, raw honey, and lemons.  Fruits that grow on trees such as apple, pears, plums, limes, and kiwi.

The fifth chakra is sensitive to certain fruits since it is the house of our senses.  

High-water fruits provide the throat chakra with enough moisture to open it and make it receptive to and comfortable to speak the truth.

While the sour fruits activate the throat chakra to drive away untruths.

Third Eye  (Ajna): Located on the forehead between the eyes

Element: Light

Color: Indigo

The center of wisdom, the third eye allows us to see clearly, focus, and trust our own intuitions.

Associated with the eyebrows, eyes, forehead, neurotransmitters, pineal gland, and regulation of hormone function.

When not in balance you feel angry, frustrated, unable to forgive, can’t trust gut feelings, feel stuck, and in an emotional rut.

The need to consume mostly purple foods to stay balanced such as:

  • Eggplants

  • Figs
  • Purple kale

Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): Located at the top of the head

Color: White

Associated with consciousness ability to connect to spirit and ecstasy, wisdom, self-realization, and bliss

The crown is associated with the brain, hypothalamus, the pituitary gland, and the nervous system.

When imbalance you may feel uncoordinated, clumsy, out of step, uninspired, or rigid in your thinking, feeling of confusion.

Foods that balance the crown:

The crown focuses more on fasting and detoxing than on foods.

The Crown focuses more on the spiritual aspect of our bodies, our minds.

Detoxing helps our bodies flush out toxins.

The best way to balance this chakra is to stop eating.  

Fasting has been a part of spiritual traditions, drink tea – spend time in the sun, breathe the fresh air to be nourished.

There are many methods to balance your chakras but diet is probably the easiest one.

Chakras do get blocked, when this happens the flow of energy in our body is blocked and can cause emotional and physical issues.

Food is one of the biggest healers and preventative of illness.

The chakra will sometimes need extra attention to remain balanced.

It is important to tend to each chakra every day to remain balanced and intact.

By eating a varied diet. full of color and texture, drinking nourishing teas, spending time in the sun, breathing fresh air, all will help to maintain a nourished body, mind, and chakras.

When one eats colorfully, introduces periods of fasting, gets sun, and breathes fresh air your chakras will remain balanced.

Cravings can give you an indication of which chakra you need to work on.

Your body will speak to you, all you have to do is listen to it.
